Welcome. I'm Patrick Granfar, an educator based in Los Angeles with a career built around one core idea: that teaching works best when it's shaped around the student in front of you, not a fixed curriculum applied the same way to everyone.
I started my career as an elementary school teacher, and it didn't take long before I realized that the most effective lessons were the ones I customized, sometimes lesson by lesson, sometimes student by student. That became the foundation of my approach to differentiated instruction, an idea I've spent the better part of my career refining.
Technology has played a bigger role in my teaching than it does for a lot of educators of my generation. I started bringing interactive tools and digital resources into my classroom early, not because it was trendy, but because I noticed it reached students who weren't responding to more traditional methods.
Outside the classroom, I've taken on mentorship roles for newer teachers and served on school committees focused on curriculum and policy. I've also worked to build stronger connections between classrooms and the families and communities they serve, since I think a lot of the friction in education comes from those groups operating without enough communication.
